Web Directories that Display and/or Sort by PR
Sorting by Google PR seems to be the best overall option available for web directories, and many web directories display the PR value for web site listings as information for visitors. However, a lot of web directories are not obtaining valid PR information for the listings. This can be a significant problem for those that sort by PR. If you use the popular PHP Link Directory script, install and use the PR update MOD. The tool seems to work even when the information is not obtained normally with submissions. Doing so will even increase sales as submitters will be able to judge the future placement for a new submission. Otherwise, the submitter is left to assume the listing will be placed at the bottom, several pages deep into a category. The tool is also very useful for updating all listings when a Google PageRank update occurs.

If a webmaster has an established directory and that directory is currently sorting links by order of PR, then decides to change it so the newest links are first, how will that affect PR of that page?
It should not effect the directory page PR at all. However, I would recommend against sorting by date. I believe many people would not want to submit to your directory if their listing is going to be buried (more and more over time). I hope that helps. Good luck.
Point taken, but on the other token, a new site who’s webmaster wants to boost PR by submitting to directories won’t want to submit because he has no PR to keep him on the front pages. Just a thought!
I appreciate your response.
Understand your point, and it is certainly a valid consideration. However, the listing placement will increase as the site is developed, which is something the promoter should be working to achieve. Therefore, of all the options available, PR simply seems to be the best. It’s not perfect, of course, but it seems to be better than the others.
Nice. Very good article, thanks.
